Legislation

In a garage in Apeldoorn the mechanic is unsure about a tyre's tread depth. He places the tread depth gauge exactly on a wear indicator and reads 1.6 mm. What does he conclude?

This reading does not count: he must measure the 1.6 mm in the grooves, not on the indicator
The tyre complies, because the 1.6 mm on the indicator counts as tread
The tyre is rejected, because exactly 1.6 mm is already too little tread

Explanation

False — the requirement is at least 1.6 mm, so exactly 1.6 mm in the grooves still complies. The problem here is where he measured: a reading on the wear indicator does not count; he must measure again in the grooves.
