Load and trailer

At a trailer rental near the Keukenhof you check a 1,100 kg trailer with a working auxiliary coupling. The approval mark on the coupling is barely legible anymore. The rental owner says: 'With that auxiliary coupling fitted, the coupling no longer needs an approval mark.' Is that correct?

Yes, under 1,500 kg that mark lapses as soon as an auxiliary coupling is fitted
Yes, for trailers under 3,500 kg those coupling requirements do not apply yet
No, even at 1,100 kg with an auxiliary coupling the coupling must have an approval mark

Explanation

False — one requirement does not replace the other. The coupling of every trailer must have an approval mark and be properly fastened, whatever the weight and whichever braking device is fitted. Book p.231.
