What the exam asks about this sign

The question is who has priority at a narrowing: this sign does not settle it, it only warns. If there is no F5/F6, apply the normal rule: whoever reaches the narrowing first drives through; the other waits. Trap: candidates think the right-hand side always goes first.

Exam question on this sign

On the N35 near Almelo you see sign J17 (road narrows); there is no speed sign with it and an oncoming car is approaching. Here you choose your speed yourself, so that you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear ahead of you.

  1. True
  2. False
Show the answer

Correct answer: True

False — you think J17 prescribes a fixed lower speed. A warning sign sets no speed and no obligation; you adjust your speed yourself so that you can stop within the distance you can see and that is clear.

Why learners get this wrong: At sign J17 (road narrowing) you are legally required to a specific, fixed lower speed.
