Sign G2: End of the motorway
Legal meaning
End of motorway.
Shape and colour
Blue rectangular sign with the dual carriageway and a red diagonal bar: end of motorway.
Where the sign stands
About 20 m before the end of the motorway, where the road continues as an ordinary road.
What the exam asks about this sign
The question is what changes after this sign: the motorway rules lapse and the limit becomes that of the road that follows (usually an expressway, 100, or an ordinary road, 80 or 50). Trap: candidates keep 130 until they see an A1; the end sign itself already brings the limit down.
Often confused with
- Start of a motorway
G1— The start of the motorway. - Start of an expressway (autoweg)
G3— Often the road that follows G2: expressway, 100 km/h. - End of the previously indicated maximum speed
A2— End of a sign-based limit, not of the road type.
