How the exam asks it

About Do not block the junction — even with priority: which statements are correct? (multiple answers possible)

  1. If you have to let a priority vehicle (blue flashing light and two-tone horn) go first, you may move onto or stand on the junction when that is needed to make room.
  2. Even a driver who wants to turn left on a priority road and waits for oncoming traffic must stay before the junction.
  3. The rule applies to everyone entering the junction, even on a green light: if the far side is at a standstill, you keep the passage clear and wait before it.
  4. If traffic beyond the junction is stuck, you may drive halfway onto the junction and wait there.

Correct answer: If you have to let a priority vehicle (blue flashing light and two-tone horn) go first, you may move onto or stand on the junction when that is needed to make room.; The rule applies to everyone entering the junction, even on a green light: if the far side is at a standstill, you keep the passage clear and wait before it.

Waiting even halfway onto the junction still blocks the crossing traffic — wait before it, not on it

Why learners get this wrong: Even a driver who wants to turn left on a priority road and waits for oncoming traffic must stay before the junction.

About The three-colour traffic light: green, yellow, red — and its limits: which statement is correct?

  1. On a yellow light you must always stop, even if you have already approached the junction too closely to brake safely.
  2. On a green light you may always enter the junction, even if the far side is already jammed with stationary traffic.
  3. The bicycle light applies to cyclists, moped riders on a cycle/moped path and drivers of a mobility scooter, not to other traffic.
  4. An illuminated arrow in the traffic light applies to every direction of travel on that lane, not only the direction the arrow points.

Correct answer: The bicycle light applies to cyclists, moped riders on a cycle/moped path and drivers of a mobility scooter, not to other traffic.

The bicycle light applies to cyclists, moped riders on a cycle/moped path and drivers of a mobility scooter, not to other traffic. The driver follows their own light

Why learners get this wrong: On a yellow light you must always stop, even if you have already approached the junction too closely to brake safely.

At a junction in Schoonhoven you have a green light and priority over the crossing traffic. Right after the junction traffic is completely gridlocked, no room to drive through. What do you do?

  1. I drive on, because I have a green light and priority
  2. I drive on, the blocking prohibition only applies at a red light
  3. I wait before the junction until there is room to drive through again
Show the answer

Correct answer: I wait before the junction until there is room to drive through again

The blocking prohibition is independent of priority: if the far side is at a standstill, you wait before it

Why learners get this wrong: If you have priority over the crossing traffic, you may always enter the junction, even if the far side is at a standstill.
