Source: RVV 1990 annex 1 · checked 2026-10-23

Shape and colour

Triangle with a red rim and a black arrow bending right: dangerous bend to the right.

On the straight approach before the bend (about 30 m, outside town ≥ 100 m per CROW), on the right; inside town usually no bend sign.

What the exam asks about this sign

The question is what to do at a bend to the right: reduce speed before the bend, do not brake in the bend and keep right because oncoming traffic may cut towards you. Trap: candidates misread the direction (J3 is to the left) or think the sign forbids overtaking; it does not, though overtaking in a bend is rarely safe.

Exam question on this sign

Outside the built-up area, on an 80 km/h road near Vijlen, you see a triangular sign with a red border and a black arrow bending to the right (J2). What is the correct reaction?

  1. Turn right at the next side road: the arrow indicates a mandatory direction.
  2. Reduce speed before the bend: the road curves sharply to the right and the force pushes you to the left.
  3. Expect a bend to the left: the arrow shows the oncoming driver's line.
Show the answer

Correct answer: Reduce speed before the bend: the road curves sharply to the right and the force pushes you to the left.

Why learners get this wrong: Sign J2 (triangle with a bending arrow) obliges you to turn right at the next opportunity.
