B4 – Priority intersection where a side road joins from the left

Series: B -- Priority

Legal meaning

Priority junction, side road on the left.

Source: RVV 1990 annex 1 · checked 2026-10-23

Shape and colour

Triangle pointing up with a red rim; a thick vertical line (your road) with a thin side road to the left: you have priority.

Where the sign stands

Just before the junction with the side road on the left, on the right; the side road gets B6 or B7 and shark's teeth.

What the exam asks about this sign

The question is who has priority over the side road on the left: you, the thick line is your road, the thin line the minor side road. Note the difference with B5, where the side road is on the right; priority applies only to that one junction. Trap: candidates read the thin line as 'you must give way', but the thick line is always the road with priority.

Trap

Mixing up B4 and B5, ignoring the direction.

B4 = side road joins from the LEFT. B5 = from the RIGHT.
