Sign B5: Priority intersection where a side road joins from the right

B5 – Priority intersection where a side road joins from the right

Series: B -- Priority

Legal meaning

Priority junction, side road on the right.

Source: RVV 1990 annex 1 · checked 2026-10-23

Shape and colour

Triangle pointing up with a red rim; a thick vertical line with a thin side road to the right: you have priority, also over traffic from the right.

Where the sign stands

Just before the junction with the side road on the right, on the right; the side road gets B6 or B7 and shark's teeth.

What the exam asks about this sign

The exam asks who has priority when a car approaches from the right: you, because the thick line is your road and the side road on the right is minor. Without this sign the rule 'right goes first' would apply — exactly the confusion the exam looks for. Always look at line thickness: thick is priority, thin is wait.

Trap

Mixing up B4 and B5, ignoring the direction.

B4 = side road joins from the LEFT. B5 = from the RIGHT.

Exam question on this sign

About Priority signs B: priority road, look-or-stop, and which side: which statement is WRONG?

  1. Shark's teeth independently carry the same meaning as B6: yield to drivers on the crossing road.
  2. Sign B6 (red inverted triangle) requires you, just like B7, to come to a full stop before yielding.
  3. B4 = side road on the LEFT, B5 = side road on the RIGHT.
  4. B1 applies until sign B2 (end of priority road) appears, not until a municipal boundary or indefinitely.
Show the answer

Correct answer: Sign B6 (red inverted triangle) requires you, just like B7, to come to a full stop before yielding.

B6 = yield right of way (no stop requirement), B7 = stop + yield right of way

Why learners get this wrong: Shark's teeth road markings are just a visual reminder; the real priority rule comes only from the sign next to them.
